Project Brief

3rd Year - 3 Weeks

Skills: Rapid Ideating, Research, Problem Synthesis

In a medical emergency, every second counts—but in a moment of panic, even the best of us can freeze. That’s where Pacemate comes in. This pocket-sized, intelligent CPR assistant ensures you perform chest compressions and rescue breaths at the correct rate and rhythm with simple audible beeps. Pacemate helps anyone—trained or untrained—deliver effective, life-saving CPR with confidence.

Challenge

Find a use for a small button device, design the sound it makes, and design the outer shape of it in accordance with the given internal dimensions. Full freedom to research and decide a need for a product, exercise on form and visual communication while considering product internals.

Opportunity

Many medical emergencies require immediate response within minutes, if not seconds. That assistance can be provided by bystanders if they are equipped with the right knowledge and skills. Focus on a small, portable device that can help an individual save another person's life.

Background Research

Across Canada, only 40% of people receive CPR, when experiencing a cardiac arrest that occurs in a public setting. Even though 61% of Canadians say that they would be willing to perform it. This lack of confidence in bystander aid, is where PaceMate+ comes into play.
